Lakes Oswego High football player Will Storey committed to Oregon State, according to the Oregonian.
He’s a 6-foot-2, 210-pound QB but is expected to play LB or S. His family has ties to OSU, so he committed soon after receiving an offer.
Washington State pursued him as a defender and Portland State wanted him at WR or RB.
This is OSU’s 10th verbal commitment for the 2010 class. If he’s a defensive player Storey would be the fifth in the class.

Hate this.
We're signing WSU and PSU rejects? Ugh.

This is really a sad comment. You are simply attacking a nice young man. Maybe he didn't make the top lists, but so what? How many players has Riley found that are not on everyone's top lists that have done just fine? To call him a reject is simply misplaced and a deragatory comment on someone you know little about.
Just sad.

Angry, that's way out of line dude. That's a bull***t personal attack. Stow it.

Please see my below post on this topic. The opinion he has is sports based. That's OK. Personal is, well personal. That's not tolerated.

yeah that is a bit alarming. They have pulled out some gems before from one and two stars and even walk-ons but it would be nice to see some more three and four mixed in with a five here and there. I know people say that those ratings dont count, but in a way they do. Finding gems is great but not everyone is going to be a steal. some will turn out to be duds. It would be great to have ssome real studs start coming to osu and still be able to get those under the radar guys

Right, what people hate admitting is that Michael Phillip was able to come in and start because he's an elite talent/4 star. Ranking, when projected via film and analysis rather than pedigree, hs reputation, or offer sheet, are pretty spot on.
Beaver fans also hate acknowledging all the scholies we've wasted on duds. Sure there are some good ones, but most are average to below. They'll bring up Mike Hass, though, for which there was one in school history. Meanwhile, I can name about 30 walk-on busts without thinking very hard.

Yep, Hass is the only walk-on success we've ever had.
Let me just throw three at you that would suggest otherwise — Jonathan Smith (one of the most successful QB's at OSU), Alexis Serna (Groza Award winner), Slade Norris ('09 NFL draftee, Pac-10 honoree). All walk-ons when they got to OSU.
Sure, we could get into Laybourn (several Pac-10 honors last year), Yliniemi (Groza finalist) a few years ago, or even a Jake Cookus (whose name I'm guessing means nothing to 'angry', but does stand out to real OSU fans). No sense even getting into Adeniji, Remmers, Johnson, Olander or Hekker that are starting this year and proving they were worth being offered a walk-on spot.
To get to the bigger point, what do walk-on "busts" matter? Walk-ons are a low risk, low investment proposition so it's not about the misses, but you have to give credit to OSU for the number of "hits" they've had with the walk-on program.
Angry is a star gazer with no sense of history or perspective, pure and simple. He's never seen film on Storey let alone seen him in person to make a judgement, but the fact Rivals hasn't rated him yet and his offer list makes him think he's no good.
Philipp has proven to be worth of his 4* (as did Joe Newton and Keith Ellison), but what about guys like Landingham, Lockheart, Alexander, or David Ross (who had yet to show he's ready for Pac-10 ball, but hopefully will step up soon)?

I mean the only way to interpret this offer is that the Beavs have struck out with every recruit on their A list, most likely their B list, and are now grasping at straws. This is really disappointing. This has to be one of the worst classes of the past 10 years, and after 3 years of being ranked. Beaver fans kept saying, "be patient, recruiting will improve with wins." Well that's 3 top 25 finishes now and we're signing Will Story. I am sorry but that doesn't cut it.

Easy now, everyone. Angry has a sports opinion that is fine. It pushed it a little calling Storey out, but as an athlete that's going to happen. People are a little nicer to HS athletes, but in college the gloves are off.
In general, I like discussion/arguments on the blog. Just no cussing and no personal attacks. Just defending/attack sports opinion. Players, coaches and the media are fine targets because they are public figures.

It's been taken a little too far if you continue reading down of more of the posts on the same subject.
"Well that's 3 top 25 finishes now and we're signing Will Storey. I am sorry but that doesn't cut it. "
This is more than a sports opinion, it is a direct attack on Will Storey. The sports opinion may be that 3 top 25 finishes, etc. My opinion, of course, but it's more than an opinion here. Cliff, sorry, gotta disagree with you here. I guess you own the blog and you can censor what you want, but this is clearly over the top in my mind.

Doesn't everyone have dud stories? Sheesh! Someone's complaining about recruiting after 28 wins in three seasons? We're stuck with too much youth, and we'll probably raise our graduation rate another 20 points in the next few years because of it. I will take a group of kids who are there for school first rather than go back to the dregs of the conference with USC, Cal, Oregon and (ugh) Arizona. We have four star athletes sitting on the bench because better players decided to forego their possible Utah State or UTEP lives for ones in the Pac 10.
I would guess that Storey will RS and develop as a DE given the way the last couple weeks have gone. And remember that we have 6 grayshirts coming in January that will be added onto this class.

And I'm not saying that recruiting can't get better. I'm just saying that I'm not paid to evaluate, develop and implement talent for my favorite team. So I don't get my panties in a wad when those who have done so successfully in recent years reach out to legacies who want to be a part of OSU football with all their heart.

Eventually the Beavers are going to have to step up on the recruiting front. If the Beavers and Riley want to continue this success and take it up a notch, the talent level will have to do the same. I hear what Angry is saying. He wasnt trying to be a jerk, he was just making a point, which is valid. This blog would be a boring one if everybody always agreed. If you have an opinion state it and be prepared to back it up. Nobody has to make it personal though, after all we all want the same thing, the Beavers to win. This is Corvallis, not Eugene so stay classy.

I couldn't agree more with Angry on this one. The Beavers lack of recruiting success is alarming and we cannot continue to have the same on field success without starting to land some top guys. Why do you think the Beavs always get off to slow starts? Or lose at least a game or two it shouldn't every year? Because our talent level is below most Pac-10 teams. Now granted our coaches are GREAT at coaching up the talent that we do have but coaching can only go so far as eventually talent will win out. Riley and Co. have to pick it up on the recruiting trail if we ever want to be a consistent top-25 team and Rose Bowl contender.
