Cliff: Kahut honored Comments

Oregon State PK Justin Kahut was named the special teams player of the week by the Pacific-10 Conference on Monday.

RB LaMichael James of Oregon and LB Mike Mohamed of California were the offensive and defensive players of the week.

Kahut accounted for 14 of OSU’s 26 points in a 26-19 win against UCLA. He was on 4-for-5 field goal attempts, connecting from 48, 42, 27 and 31 yards and made both extra points.

Kahut was also named one of three Lou Groza Kicking Award Star of the Week by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The group hands out the Groza Award, which goes to the nation’s top kicker each year.

James, a freshman, rushed 24 times for 183 yards (7.6-yard average) and a touchdown aginst Southern California. The 183 yards rushing is a freshman school record.

The Oregon offense put up 47 points and amassed 613 yards total offense, including 391 yards rushing. The Ducks piled up 31 first downs, only had to punt once in the game and were 9-for-9 in the red zone.

Mohamed led Cal’s defensive effort in a road win at Arizona State. He had a game-high 12 tackles, 11 solo. The Cal defense limited Arizona State to 15 first downs, 82 yards rushing, 329 yards total offense and forced three turnovers.
