Whew, I'm so tired of lousy Pac 10 officiating. Props to the commish for doing something about it in the instance of the near decapitation of Rodgers. I've talked with OSU coaches across 3 sports and they said that other coaches in the conference and across the country, pretty much all agree that the Pac-10 has the worst officials in the country. It's one thing to miss calls, but when they're blowing the calls on replay as consistently as they do too, it's unbelievable. Not sure enough one-sided bad calls occurred to change the outcome of the game, but I read in an LA publication there was an illegal block on the punt return for a TD too. I dunno, I'm just tired of more and more good games being marred by crappy work by the officials.

Isn't that Mays on the horse collar tackle too? The announcers pointed out that missed call. Good thing these didn't change the outcome, but just wait. Doesn't anyone remember Oregon and Oklahoma a few years ago?

Cliff,
Since James Rodgers is OK, I'm actually glad that play happened because otherwise some really bad officiating would have been swept under the rug and at least this helps call into question the continued issues. Also, Mays should be suspended for a game.
I still think the P-10 is wimping out by not naming the suspended official or comment on the exact play. I don't know if you noticed, but the official who called the phantom personal foul penalty in the Florida/Arkansas game actually spoke to the press and admitted that he should have never thrown his flag because he did not see the whole play clearly. Kind of refreshing to see that level of accountability. Only hope the P-10 follows suit at some point.

I've noticed the snaps have been like that for a while, mostly floaters that I noticed. But Riley didn't mention it as a problem. I keep meaning to bring it up, but I forget because it hasn't resulted in a problem, yet.

All I can say is wow! Fun game to watch from an entertainment standpoint, but my God the refs were awful! I'm not going to say that the refs were responsible for the outcome of the game (they weren't; bad player decisions and missed opportunities were), but they continue to be a black eye on the Pac-10. At best they are inconsistent from minute to minute and game to game and at worse they appear to be playing favorites. Neither makes our conference look good on a national stage.
I hope the new commish sees this and does something before the rest of the CF community blows us off as a ridiculous conference that can't seem to get any aspect of accurate and fair refing right. Jeeze we even manage to get instant replay wrong at times. Come on!

it is just unbeleivable how bad, year after year, the refs are in the pac-10. I mean for god sake we are the pac-10, not the sun-belt or big sky confrence! they need some serious retraining. Lets hope the new commish makes an example...

Hey Cliff was there any mention from Riley about the shotgun snaps on Saturday? Seemed to me like every one of them was either high or kind of a lazy floater. Canfield handled all of them and clearly played well but I felt like they cost him that split second which could be costly.

Under the old guy, no way. They are his buddies.
The new guy doesn't have a body of work to say he would or not.

Yes, the calls were suspect or non-calls. The "pick" on Adenji near the endzone was bad. The closline on James Rodgers was unexplainable. And there were a feww more. Cliff the SEC recently suspended a crew for some blown calls, is there any chance our new commish follows suit and holds the refs accountable?
