The Oregon State football team’s Oct. 3 Pacific-10 Conference game at Arizona State will begin at 4 p.m., and will be broadcast Versus. That will be OSU’s 23rd consecutive live televised game.
Catchings returns
WR Darrell Catchings quietly made his return last weekend against Cincinnati from a wrist injury that sidelined him for five weeks.
He rotated in at split end with Damola Adeniji and caught one pass for 18 yards. It wasn’t a dramatic comeback, but at least it was a start.
“I’m really glad he was able to play,” coach Mike Riley said. “He was rusty, but he’ll be back to helping out team soon.”
TE play
Riley kept saying the TEs will get the ball more, and it started to come to fruition last game. Joe Halahuni caught four passes 32 yards and Howard Croom caught one for four yards.
“That’s starting to get a picture of that, and he’s capable of more,” Riley said of Halahuni. “He has good hands and is a good receiver. If we played a better game it would have been more productive for him. Joe is a good athlete with good hands, and a play-maker. He just need to keep playing and gain more experience.

Those of us with Directv are screwed for the ASU game. The whole Versus Directv situation is just pissing me off. I've complained to the Pac 10 office about it, but no avail yet. (Because of a conflict my wife won't make the Arizona game and was planning on catching it on TV) But now the ASU game? Comcast is really sticking it to us right now. We've been shut out on Trail Blazer games, some Duck games, and now the Beavers? The Pac 10 office better do something or I will cut some of my contributions to Oregon State, period. DeCarolis, do you read the paper? Maybe you need to personally get involved with the Pac 10 office on this one?

You're mad (or should be) at Comcast, so you threaten BobD and OSU with cutting your financial support?
Wow, what a great fan you are.
Wah, wah, wah… boo-hoo for me! If I can't watch the game at home, I'm going to cut my financial support of the school I claim to support. Cripes, what would you do if no network was going to carry the game – burn the MU down because BobD didn't find a way to make sure you could watch it?

The Pac 10 office cut a deal allowing the game to be on Versus, owned by Comcast.. After Comcast's track record (i.e. Comcast SportsNet and the Trail Blazers), there should be protection built in to ensure the local fans can get the games. Since the Pac 10 is a membership of 10 schools OSU has a 10% vote on things, and as this issue goes on further other schools will be in the middle as well. Pressure now may ensure future contract is not cut with Comcast. BlitzJP, also, perhaps if you've contributed for years you'd feel jilted. I doubt you contribute a darn thing.

I agree this is awful. Comcast is just another greedy company. Now two games are essentially going to be blacked out fro Direct TV viewers. It is not Direct TV's fault either. They are sticking up for the customers by telling Versus that they will not charge customers more $ for the channel. And lets be honest Versus is a lesser sports channel. It is no espn and is not even close to a Fox Sports Net station. They do get some good Pac-10 games and unfortately it screws us Beaver fans.
I have asked around to see where or if we can see the Az game on the net and all i have come up with is Justin.tv and i am not sure that will work. ESPN30 is not carrying that game so I guess it is up to Justin.tv Hopefully the ASU game will be on ESPN360…..We are gettting the shaft guys!

Let me get this straight. You're going to stop donating to OSU because DeCarolis is opting to have our games on TV? Not sure how much you donate, but pretty sure it doesn't equal to the $100,000 or whatever per game that OSU gets from being on. You're issue is with Direct TV and Comcast NOT OSU Athletics.
Aaron, only games being carried by ESPN/ABC are shown on ESPN360…they aren't going to provide free access online to another networks games.
Hey, I have comcast, and i can't watch all the NFL games because direct TV has the rights to the NFL package. It works both ways guys. Its just a sign of the times. But whinning to the OSU and threating to your donations, because two cable providers are having issues? That's sad!

You are entitled to your opinion. This is not a NFL Sunday Ticket issue. It is watching my local school on TV, a far different issue than watching teams in distant cities. OSU is one of ten members of the Pac 10. The Pac 10 is OSU plus 9 other similar institutions that are together to represent each other.
Most sports bars have Directv as well.

Most sports bars will also have comcast. Your problem is fixed then eh?
Sorry, I still think it is lame you would withold hold money from OSU because your cable provider doesn't have the channel the game is on. Thats just sour grapes bud.

From what I have seen most do not have Comcast, undoubtedly some do. You can think what you want and that is great you have an opinion on it, but it doesn't alter mine. I am also not your "bud."

Cliff, I would like to hear Bob DeCarolis' comment on the Comcast situation and how the Pac 10's deal with Versus is affecting Beaver fans. The selection by Versus for two weeks in a row is just ridiculous. Out of 10 Pac 10 teams the Beavers get the selection two weeks in a row. A coincidence? Another opportunity for Comcast to stick it to local Directv customers? Maybe posting some contact information for Versus and Comcast executives?

When I get a chance, I'll ask him. But don't expect too much. Overall TV is done by the Pac-10 office. Yell at them.
And I don't think the Pac-10 could predict the Direct TV vs. Vs. issue. Yell at the Pac-10 enough and then it won't work with VS. when contracts come due.
OSU just works with FSN NW regionally when they can after the national stuff with the Pac-10 is worked out.

Posted this on the latest thread, but since the debate is here, too, here goes:
Here's something I found out about Versus vs. FSN, and this is a national thing. It doesn't matter regionally. A game on Versus is show live nationally at everywhere it goes.
FSN zones so much that, like last week's game for example, was shown on a delay basis in many parts of the country. However, the big u

From what I read in my Directv guide it was on most. There were a few that were not showing it. I also understand that the broadcast on FSN NW cut out to the Mariners while the rest of FSN kept going. I was at the game and recorded it for viewing and I knew the Mariners would affect this so I recorded it off of one of the other FSNs.

I live in Texas, we had a Houston Astro game on instead of the Beavers on FSN last week. This week i can watch it because it's on Versus.
I understand your frustration of not being able to watch the game. Fox is showing other PAC10 games this week….so we should just turn down other national TV outlets because you can't watch it. it's like no good deed goes unpunished, we've been incredibly fortunate that the Athletic office has arrange to have so many games televised recently, we now feel it's a right to watch all beaver games on TV.
Versus is trying to make money so they can pay the teams like the beavers to televise their games…they charge carriers to pick up their network–they are not in the buisness of giving away things for free. they may not be espn, but their obviously carrying some events that some of their customers (like you) care a lot about. If enough customer like you tell them that unless they carry VS you'll switch providers, then they'll pickup Versus….if not enough people complain they won't. complaining to anyone else (OSU/PAC-10 and Cliff) is a waste of your time

There are a couple things you are not seeing here:
1. In Oregon we've had issues with Comcast for three years. The NBA Trail Blazers and Oregon Ducks have been on CSN Northwest, also owned by Comcast. CSN NW is not available to satellite customers. These are our home teams. Comcast has created havoc all over the place with sports channels here in Oregon. In Houston you don;t see these issues here locally.
2. Your FSN Houston (or whatever it is called) showed the Astros, but you likely had the option to subscribe to either a sports pack with the game on multiple channels. If on satellite you can get FSN whatever and get the game on 20 or so FSN channels. If on cable you can probably get Fox College Sports that carries it as well. You had some options to get the game if you really wanted to.
3. As for complaining, its not a waste of time. If enough customers/supporters of the athletic program complain when the contracts come up for renewal it can be steered away from Comcast. Comcast has a lot of disputes across the country and if a conference has options why would it go with Comcast and the troubles they create UNLESS the money was so much better. In the Trail Blazers case FSN offered $3M and CSN $10M. The money was that good that the Trail Blazers sacrificed their fans and integrity.
Does OSU show these games on it's website? I recall watching the OSU-UA game from Tucson on the internet several years ago when it wasn't available on TV
Regards

It isnt that Direct TV doesnt want to pay the money, they have no problem with that. Comcast wants to charge them more than what they charge other providers of their network. Direct TV says that they will sign immediatley if they are charged the same as the other guys. No one is trying to get anything for free, just the same price as the others are being charged.
I just wish i could find it online somewhere….any body have any ideas?
