Reserve offensive lineman Brent McNeil left the Oregon State football team on his own accord, coach Mike Riley said after Wednesday’s practice.

McNeil is a junior from Los Angeles who never played in a game. He was a second-string tackle for part of training camp but moved down to third string this week.

Part of the reason for his departure was the lack of playing time. McNeil also has personal issues to attend to. He’s engaged to be married and has a daughter.

McNeil was a junior college transfer before the 2008 season, and was potential starter. A toe injury slowed his development, which led to the redshirt season.
