Here are the main items from meeting with Oregon State football coach Mike Riley on Thursday. Read more in Friday’s GT Beavers Sports site.

Redshirt freshman DT Jesse Fifita’s career is over. He has spinal stenosis, which is the narrowing of the spinal cord that causes nerve pinching, which leads to persistent pain in the buttocks, limping and lack of feeling in the lower extremities.

For Fifita, he kept on getting stingers in the spring. When he got them in both shoulders at the same time they had him checked out.

Incoming recruit LB Michael Doctor will greyshirt due to academics.

Incoming recruit, maybe, DB Kyrell Hudson has not signed with the Phillies, and has until Aug. 17. Even if he doesn’t sign Hudson will greyshirt.

Walk-on QB Justin Engstrom transferred to Portland State because he’s lost on the depth chart.

Riley believes backup RB Ryan McCants (knee) will be ready for the first game of the season.

He hopes QB Lyle Moevao (shoulder) is ready for the first game. Both he and McCants will be eased into training camp.

The coaching staff is physically hurting. Offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf was sporting two black eyes and 11 stitches in his head. He also has broken nose in two spots.

Langsdorf was at his family’s vacation spot in Idaho last weekend with some of the other coaching families when he was putting away a boat on the dock . A winch swung around and slammed him in the face.

His wife took him to the hospital and spent five hours in the ER. “I get chills thinking about what might have been there,” Riley said.

Riley is still walking around slow from an Achilles’ tendon injury that he got jogging. “That’s pretty bad when you get hurt jogging,” Riley said.
