The Oregon State football team received two verbal commitments this week, according to recruiting services.
LB Michael Bibbee of North Eugene High is one and TE Tyler Perry of Buena High in Ventura, Calif., is the other. The Beavers have four commitments so far toward the eight coach Mike Riley plans for in the 2010 recruiting class.
Bibbee is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound one-star athlete. He had a great sophomore season, but missed half his junior year due to injury. He had a hernia issue, thus the low ranking.
Perry is a three-star 6-5, 240-pounder. Scout.com ranks him the No. 35 prospect in the nation at his position. He had offers from Arizona and UNLV.
Here are some Perry highlights. Kudos to the video maker for the Metallica song.
At the polls
Here’s the latest poll for you to take at the GT Beavers Sports site. It’s on if incoming freshman OT Michael Philipp should play or redshirt his first season.
As for the previous poll, Ryan McCants edged Jovan Stevenson 114-105 in your opinion as who should be the backup RB.

Cliff – doesn't Bibbee's 1 star simply mean that he hasn't be rated yet? I'm pretty sure it just means Scout hasn't evaluated him….I could be wrong though

That's right. His rating will change in the next year.

Perry appears to have tremendous hands and seems ideally suited for the position of TE. I also admired the nimbleness of his feet for his size but also enjoyed the punishing running style once he secured the ball. This kid could be a real addition to the Beavs 2010 recruiting class.
Cliff – Any insight on the other recruits that were at the OS camp last week?

Nothing about specific potential recruits. I usually learn about them right after they commit.

Cliff- with the sucess of the last three years and Riley's growing reputation it looks like the beavs have a shot at some 4stars this year. After these four recruits we have 4 left. How will he manage these when Jan and Feb come around and he has 20 recruits and only 3 want to greyshirt. Is he talking to any of the four commits about greyshirting already? Is there a max # of greyshirts you can have?

I'm sure Riley will over recruit, which means this year more than eight spots. Coaches just do that. So, there will be greyshirts. There's no limit, but you could lose them if they are top recruits. So, I'd expect most, if not all, the recruits who greyshirt to be 1-2 star guys. The top recruits will be brought in quickly.

On paper, Riley significantly boosted his OL depth in this year's recruiting class (2009). QB depth appears to be very solid, as well. I would really like to see the Beavs add depth to the RB position, as well as DT. I imagine that Paea will elect to forgo his Senior year, particularly if he has the same type of production he had in '08. He could easily be a late 1st rd – early 2nd rd pick. The Beavs need to get more depth at this position, particularly since they rotate in relief players often. Cliff – Is there any position that looks particularly weak in terms of depth for 2010?

Mike Riley has gotten the Beavers to the point that there is no depth issue anywhere on the roster. That's why with such a small recruiting class this year, he's just taking someone from all the spots to maintain depth.
I've pointed out that in the past that OSU has a lot of depth at DT and DE. There are no dynamic players there in the depths. That's not a problem with the way they play at DT, but can be an issue at DE. That's always something they are trying to fix.

It would be great to have a tight end that can block and catch the ball. We really havent had a really good TE since Newton left. I thought Croom would develop into a better reciever but that really hasnt happened. Hopefully this guy will fill that need.
