Team USA football Comments
Oregon State football team recruits DB Jordan Poyer and WR Kevin Cummings begin play in the inaugural International Federation of American Football Junior World Championships this weekend in Canton, Ohio.
They are on Team USA and will play in an opening round game against France on Saturday. The eight-team single-elimination tournament also has teams from Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, Mexico and Sweden.
The next game is Wednesday, followed by medal games July 4 with the gold medal game July 5.
Poyer will join the Beavers in the middle of July and Cummings is schedule to greyshirt at the moment, coach Mike Riley said earlier in the week. Riley is supportive of this experience, even with the chance of injury to his players.
“I don’t worry about that, even if it could happen,” Riley said. “But it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. And Jordan is a guy who is a total athlete, who wouldn’t sit still anyway.”
