Day 3 draft (update) Comments

Oregon State RHP Greg Peavey was picked by the Houston Astros in the 32nd round with the 971st pick. He’s a sophomore with two more years of eligibility, so expect him to come back next year.
“I have some decision making to do,” Peavey said. “I don’t know with this. As of right now I’m ready to be a Beaver next year.”
OF Adalberto Santos got the call in the 35th round with the 1,044th pick by the San Diego Padres. Expect him to come back, too.
Read my main draft story in Thursday’s GT here. It has interviews with all four Beavers drafted yesterday – C Ryan Ortiz, RHP Jorge Reyes, LHP Kraig Sitton and SS Joey Wong.
Read my draft notebook in Thursday’s GT here. It has stuff on incoming recruits, how the Ducks did and other players with in-state ties.
OSU football recruit Jordan Poyer of Astoria High was drafted as a CF in the 42nd round by the Florida Marlins. Poyer told me in a commitment story that he would see how the draft went, but was very solid about playing football. He didn’t expect to go high, which he didn’ We’ll have to see how that plays out during the summer.
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Poyer. He still plans to play football for the Beavers. He’s enrolled for this summer.
“I’m still set on playing football for the Beavers,” Poyer said. “I made up my mind in April, if I didn’t get a certain amount of money I was going to Oregon State for football.”
Poyer heads to Canton, Ohio, this weekend to play for the United States in an international football tournament for a month and then arrives in Corvallis in the middle of July to prepare for the season.
