Draft update Comments
There were no Oregon State baseball players drafted on the first day of the major league draft, which went three rounds Tuesday. There were 111 picks made.
However, the football and baseball teams probably lost incoming recruit Kyrell Hudson of Evergreen High in Vancouver, Wash. He was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round with the 106th overall pick.
Hudson signed with the Beavers and coach Mike Riley felt he could play as a true freshman as a kick and punt retuner, but thought he would lose him to baseball. Hudson was recruited as an athlete who could be a defensive back or receiver. Rivals.com rated him the 81st best athlete among football players in the nation.
As a baseball player, Baseball Northwest considered him the region’s top prospect as an outfielder. He’s very fast, and showed some power. If he doesn’t sign, Hudson will play both sports at OSU.
