C Angus Brandt of Lake Forest Academy in Illinois verbally committed to the Oregon State men’s basketball team, according his coach Matt Vaughn. The above video is a high school production of a game Brandt played. He’s No. 34 in orange. Yes, his school is orange and black.

Scout.com has him as a 6-foot-9, 220-pound four-star athlete, while Rivals.com lists him at 6-10, 210 and as a three-star athlete.

Brandt picked the Beavers over Arizona State, Michigan, Washington State and New Mexico. He’s a native of Australia and only came to the United States in the summer of 2008.

“He’s really excited,” Vaughn said. “It’s has been a really long process for him. He had no idea what it was going to be like. Coaches were after him all the time. He found it exciting for the first couple of week, and then it got tiring. He wanted to be a normal kid. But he handled it pretty well.”

He’s a skilled big man, similar to OSU’s Roeland Schaftenaar. Brandt has a good outside shot and plays well facing the basket.

There are now four players in the recruiting class, and the Beavers should be done recruiting. They have five scholarships but coach Craig Robinson previously said he wants to save one for next year.

Four-star G Roberto Nelson and three-star C Joe Burton have signed with the Beavers. Four-star G Jared Cunningham and Brandt are expected to sign in regular signing period, which begins April 15. Rivals.com predicts OSU will have a top-25 recruiting class.
