First Sun Bowl presser Comments

OSU coach Mike Riley address the media.
EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association put together the first of two press conferences Sunday. The other is Tuesday, the day before the game.

Oregonian beat writer Paul Buker asked me how many quotes will be used out of this. I said zero, but he was more optimistic and said three. It ended up begin one, maybe two.

Print guys don’t like these things because they are void of feeling, so questions are generic. TV guys love them because it’s easy to just turn on the camera and have print guys ask the questions.

Oh, what a surprise. That’s exactly what happened. The coaches still said they were happy to be here and are enjoying themselves.

Here’s usable comment No. 1. It’s from Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt, and it’s about having too much fun.

“It has been a good experience, but I hope not too good of an experience,” he said. “Our kids are having a good time.”

That is very true from my observations at the Adventure Zone on Saturday night. (See the previous post.) The Panthers haven’t been to a bowl game since the 2004 season, and the players are a little more wild than the Beavers. It’s a more business for OSU.

The other thing that I picked up on is that OSU coach Mike Riley likes how his practices have been going. He stated that for the blog previously and here at the press conference. Wannstedt, however, is not happy with his.
Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt doesn\'t like his practices.
