WSU pregame/game thread Comments

Tailgating view from back of Reser Stadium press box.

It’s a cool, sunny day in Corvallis for this showdown between Northwest rivals Oregon State and Washington State. It will be cold by the end of the night.

Festivities outside Reser Stadium are laid back with the feeling of an big win by the Beavers, being a 30-point favorite.

Upon entering the press box, the first thing that’s noticeable is the extra room because of a lack of people. This contest isn’t a media draw with this game being a dud, and with the Ducks playing in Eugene tonight.

OSU officials told me everybody is planning to dress out, but I would be surprised to see CB Brandon Hughes (hamstring) play. S Al Afalava (groin) and WR Sammie Stroughter may only see limited action.

UPDATE: Afalava is not strating. Suaesi Tuimaunei is starting instead.

The key to this game is getting up on the Cougars fast, and then let reserves play. However, players can’t go into it thinking that’s what is going to happen, just because they are on the field.

So feel free to comment before, during and after the game. My postgame blog should be up by 9 p.m., but probably sooner. Sunday’s edition stories will be up by midnight.
