Here’s the list for the Oregon State baseball team. A few might not go if they sign pro contracts, of course. That would mostly likely only be John Wallace, Jason Ogata or Mark Grbavac.

Do these guys get ‘drafted’ so to speak to play on their specific teams or does OSU work with the teams and ‘assign’ them or how does that work?

Just curious as to how a guy ends up on a team? Do the players have any input or say at all or do they just show up, when and where, they are told to go?

Just curious.

It’s a little of everything. Players and college coaches have contacts, and help place players with teams. Certain teams, such as in the Cape Cod, go after elite players. So they ask about prospects.
But most good programs – four-year or JC – make sure their players are playing in the summer.

Counting Ortiz and Rhoderick, is that the most we’ve had in the Cape Cod league at one team. Its gotta be, a good sign of things to come…

I’m glad to see Jorge Reyes step outside his comfort zone and challenge himself on the east coast this summer. Hopefully it will provide a good springboard into next season for him.

Yes, expenses are picked up for the bigger leagues known for importing players. I played in one in San Diego, but with 95 percent of the players from San Diego, no expenses were picked up for that one.

I don’t know the record for Cape Cod League players, but that is a good number. These young guys the Beavers have are future prospects. They just needed a year to establish themselves.

Do I read your story about Rhoderick staying to mean Casey has decided to stick around Corvallis, or is he still thinking about a change and Rhoderick is simply waiting to see what Casey actually decides to do? I guess the way I interpreted the article it seems like they both could stay, or go.
Rhoderick’s comments about not making the playoffs (one of the reasons he thought about leaving?) were interesting to me. His expectations coming to OSU were to go to the College World Series, and he is disappointed they didn’t make it this year. Well, it seems to me that if the team wins some of the games they should have (Utah valley, Gonzaga, USC, WSU, etc.) the Beavs make the playoffs. The players only have themselves to blame in that regard.
Maybe I misread those comments and it had more to do with Casey’s status. Looking forward to ‘09 and what the Beavs can do with this young group!

From Rhoderick:
“I was considering leaving, but I’m here for the next few years,” Rhoderick said. “I’m here for good. Me and coach had a meeting (Wednesday). There was speculation he was leaving. If Casey is gone, I’m gone. With him back, I’m here. So there’s nothing to worry about.”

After meeting with Casey, Rhoderick said he is staying because Casey is staying. If Casey left, Rhoderick left.

I am quite relieved that Rhoderick is coming back – and thrilled that Coach Casey will be. (Coach, get yourself some nice R&R!)

As for Kevin Rhoderick, I think hek needs to feel a little bit of what Jonah Nickerson felt back in 2006. Remember how, after winning the CWS but before Coach Casey made his decision regarding leaving for Notre Dame, that Nickerson was in his office and said something like, “When I left high school, if someone had offered me $5,000, I’d have gone. Now I wouldn’t have gone for $500,000.” The magic, the unbridled joy of winning the CWS. Just watching to faces of all those wonderful young men when they realized what they’d accomplished. That feeling of being a team – a feeling that they’ll never have like that ever again. That’s what lacked this year, and what Rhoderick needs to experience.

So when Kevin considers leaving, he needs to hear from Jonah.

I can’t believe anyone would pass on the chance to play in the Cape????? One of the players said he didn’t think Robles was coming back to Corvallis?????? I’m sure there is a stronger program some where in UTAH??????????????? Duh

Robles needs to rest his arm. Tendonittis goes away after a long period of rest. And if he doesn’t feel good now, it would be a waste to go to the Cape and play.

As for him not returing, I don’t know it that’s true. We shall see.
