Oregon State RB Yvenson Bernard will have an MRI on a swollen knee Monday but he was getting around well Sunday, coach Mike Riley said.

OLB Derrick Doggett has a wrist sprain and QB Lyle Moevao has a sore hip. CB Keenan Lewis was sore from his old knee sprain.

So, the second bye week of the season has come at another good time. The Beavers will practice Monday and Tuesday before breaking up for Thanksgiving. They return Sunday to prepare for the Civil War.

i think i like what i see in Lyle more than i like what i see in Sean. the troops just seem more inspired when he is in there and i like that he is more mobile, among other things. am i alone….?

I’m not sure Lyle has better “skills” than Canfield, but the team does seem to play more fired up ball with Moevao in the game, and they’re winning. He sets a great example with his fire and energy, I keep thinking back to “the block”. Personally I’m a little tired of the laid back So. Cal no pulse cool thing…I prefer a real Angry Beaver like we seem to have now.

Hmmm, I would agree with those assesments of the quarterbacks if the Beaver’s had just beaten the top two teams in the Pac 10. Well, some of them.

I think that there are many plays that Canfield could have made against Washington that Lyle didn’t. Of course that is pure speculation, but their difference in playing styles kind of alludes to it. Also, Lyle had the benefit of 200 yards of rushing in the last two games. That makes things a lot easier for him. He also had the strongest line play of the season so far, with the exception of the Utah game.

Of course, this could all point to his presence in the huddle, but I don’t think that the guys get less pumped up because the Quarterback is a quiet guy. I have played with a very quiet quarterback and he did really well. As for the Souther Cal attitude, are you saying that you would not have liked to have Matt Moore this year? You think Matt and his consecutive passes without an interception record wouldn’t have been appreciated in, say, the Arizona State, Cincinnati and UCLA games? How about his quick reads in the USC game?

You are probably right. Southern California quarterbacks are probably not a good thing to have.

Oh, and the Beaver’s have won five of their last six, but I am pretty sure Lyle only started two of those.

I am not saying that Lyle is bad mind you, I think he is doing great. I just trust Riley to put the best guy out there that gives Oregon State University the best chance to win. I think Riley has proven that his two quarterback decision in the beginning of the year was warranted and I think that he knows what is best for his team.

If Lyle starts, Rock on! If Sean starts Rock On!

Lyle has been fine, but the biggest thing for him and the Beavers this year in general is to AVOID the KILLER mistakes…he is a VERY limited passer at this point. Riley & Langsdorf (thank goodness) have finally pulled the reins back on the pass plays – something that should have happened earlier in the season – maybe we are 9-2 right now with two close losses on the road (if, if, if…) without 18 turnovers in our first 3 losses!! We only have 10 turnovers in the other 8 games combined.

Lyle had two turnovers in the UW game and it could have easily been 4; he managed the game *WAY* better in the WSU game, but as noted in previous post, the running game has been dominant in both of those games, not to mention both those teams are 4-7, 2-6 right now.

Sean is not that far ahead, but his passing ability has a lot more upside and is quite a bit less limited than Lyle in my opinion. Lyle is significantly better with his legs of course, but don’t think it would be a good thing if he is our solution for the next 2 seasons.

Bottom line is until either Sean or Lyle develop significantly from where we are at, Beavs need to continue to take as much pressure off them as possible and put it on the O-line, Yvenson, and the D.

BTW – have you seen the stats for the D?! Absolutely sick – just as good as Fiesta Bowl year, if not better…if we had an offense half as good as that year, the D stats would be even better and we’d be talking about what BCS bowl we’re going to!

TFL – #7 in nation (#1 in total yds lost)
Takeaways – #3 in nation!!

Despite still being 104th in Giveaways (28) for the season, we are still +3 in overall margin with 31 takeaways…incredible.

I think P.R.O. and Gregg L. have made good points. The only thing I’d toss in is that I’m concerned about Canfield coming back from his layoff. He was getting better, but (assuming he plays versus Oregon) he’ll have been out for four weeks.

Moevao is on a little bit of a roll (not against the toughest defenses, I know) and he’s getting better.

I would go with the hot hand at Autzen. The bowl game’s another story.
